Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial World Series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.

Behind three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot except for him with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
