Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated fury after former President Donald Trump accused a group of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be detained and punished "through capital punishment" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Message That Sparked the Debate

The recorded message, released on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who in the past acted in armed forces or intelligence capacities.

"As we did, you all took an vow to safeguard and support this national charter," the lawmakers declared in the short video. "At present, the threats to our constitution are not only from abroad, but from within our own country. Our statutes are clear, you can refuse improper directives, you can refuse illegal orders, you have to reject improper directives. No one has to execute orders that contravene the statutes or our constitution."

Trump's Furious Response

The recorded statement seemed to prompt a furious reaction from the former president.

On the following morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he declared: "This constitutes really serious, and Risky to our Country. Their statements cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a comment that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders Respond

Following Trump's statements on that day, House Democratic leader released a joint declaration denouncing the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no position in America," they declared. "Congress members who participated in the video all worked our nation with exceptional national pride and honor. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's appalling and harmful calls for execution against elected officials, and appeal to GOP representatives to strongly do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in touch with protective services "to guarantee the security of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these extreme social media posts and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the declaration continued.

Officials' Defiant Answer

The officials who were featured in the video also issued a statement.

"We are former service members and national security professionals who value this United States and took an oath to protect and uphold the national charter of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to keep it. No intimidation, intimidation, or call for violence will prevent us from that important duty."

"The significant point is that the former president considers it punishable by capital punishment for us to repeat the statutes," they added. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their support as they carry out their oath to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "All citizens must come together and denounce the former president's requests for our murder and political violence. This is a period for moral clarity."

Additional Governmental Responses

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's comments and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the death of government members."

He stated: "This represents an clear THREAT. All senators, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "treason", describing the video as "extremely improper", commenting: "This represents very harmful, you have important representatives of Congress instructing soldiers to defy commands, I think that's unprecedented in American history."

The Conservative representative also reportedly informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the violation of treason" but that "legal experts have to analyze the language and decide all that."

Administration Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when questioned by a media member, "Does the president want to kill members of Congress?", the White House press secretary answered: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the president is reacting to," the official stated. "We see current representatives of the US Congress who coordinated to organize a recorded statement to individuals of the national defense, to active duty service members advising them to ignore the executive's lawful orders."

She said: "The integrity of our armed forces relies on the chain of command, and if that structure is violated, it can cause fatalities, it can lead to confusion, and that's what these elected officials ... are essentially promoting."
