Fury Explodes as Former President Trump's Comments on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Backlash

Figures from across the political aisle and the Hollywood industry are coming together to denounce Donald Trump for his statements in the wake of the tragic deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Los Angeles home, Trump posted on his platform to describe the deceased director as "anguished and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's demise was "because of the anger he caused others through his enormous, relentless, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's supposed "raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Detention

Authorities have since announced the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in connection with the case. Reports indicate his bond was set at a substantial sum.

A Torrent of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's words was immediate and harsh.

This is a vile and despicable comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly condemned the remarks. She pointed to previous rhetoric from Trump about the killing of an activist, asking, "Do you have no decency? Is it possible to get any worse?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "He is a sick man."

Echoing this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a despicable piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "Trump has just lost it. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner brought on their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Criticism from His Own Party

Some Republican lawmakers also voiced dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or political enemies". She also alluded to struggles with substance abuse and psychological well-being some families face.

Another Republican representative, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disrespectful" considering the nature of the deaths. He publicly challenged others in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. In a past interview, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule if Trump be reelected to power.

"There is authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner said. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his strong opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and denounced political violence without reservation following the killing of another individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the story of the session, mentioning Trump's demand for "a specific hair product" while being photographed on a skyscraper overlooking Central Park.
