Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
