Israelis have come together across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel answered by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state remembrance events until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' representatives met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to discuss the provisions of the proposal.

A senior representative familiar with the talks said that an late session of indirect talks began at evening in Egypt.

The representative said the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not produce any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the two sides.

"After we see everybody home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their solidarity for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel states nearly fifty continue in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement necessary for the hostages to return. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now consistently show that around seventy percent of Israelis want the war to conclude in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of the music event, mourners came together to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of military attacks and explosions could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses said the intense Israeli shelling carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and Nasr districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.

"My family are fearful of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, embracing, especially my little child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."
