LA Faces Unprecedented Heat Just Days After Major Winter Storm.

Following a week of heavy downpours that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unseasonably warm temperatures for the end of February.

Record-Shattering Temperatures

During the day Friday, the thermometer reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, per data from meteorologists. This easily surpasses the old record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded in 2025.

"Unusually high temperatures" were noted on official maps for the region.

Public Health Alerts

Authorities stated that Friday's heat posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations suggested:

  • Keeping well-hydrated.
  • Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
  • Ensuring you do not leave kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.

An Extreme Weather Swing

This sharp rise in temperature comes on the heels of a powerful winter storm that pummeled the area recently. That storm unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, causing evacuation orders for many residents.

Sadly, the severe weather also resulted in a deadly avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.

Forecast Ahead

Forecasters predict a cooldown is expected. Temperatures were forecast to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by overnight.

Additional areas that hit ninety degrees were Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to reach the high 80s.

In the coming days, central Los Angeles can anticipate readings in the 80s, with a further cooldown on tap for the week ahead.
