The City of Angels witnessed citywide festivities after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-game World Series title. Fans worldwide united with local residents in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a franchise has secured consecutive championships.
Victory Parade Attracts Enormous Crowds
Los Angeles area events included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Social media videos depict thousands of Los Angeles residents packing downtown streets, many displaying handmade banners and team flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy high.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the team walked out to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and Ice Cube cruising a light blue classic car around the field.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Celebrations began well before the parade, with supporters lighting fireworks in the streets of the city center on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto stated. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Mixed Reactions and City Unity
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler welcome at the celebration. Video footage from the event appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of cheers and jeers, with negative shouts punctuating his speech.
The World Series acted as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated quarter-million people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed as much if not more enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
