Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
