Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are demanding that a person who leaped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile contains videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned security officers at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the acclaimed stage show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
