The buzz about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
