Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
