The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
