World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
